Pedal Installation
Pedal Installation. Step-by-step procedure for bike maintenance — tools, time, and what to watch out for.

Procedure
-
Identify left vs right pedal.
Most pedals are marked "L" and "R" on the spindle end or hex socket end. -
Apply grease or anti-seize
to the threads. Critical — without grease, the threads will seize over a season of riding. -
Hand-thread the pedal
into the crank arm — the right pedal threads in clockwise, the left pedal threads in counter-clockwise. Both go in toward the front of the bike if positioned at 3 o'clock. -
Hand-thread until snug.
If it binds early, back off — you've cross-threaded. Re-align. -
Tighten with the wrench
to **35–40 Nm**. This is firm — most riders under-torque pedals, then they squeak. ---
