Wheel Dish Check

Dish refers to the rim being centered over the hub (not biased to one side).

Difficulty ☆☆ easy
Time ~5 min
Applies to All bikes (after wheel rebuild or impact)

Tools

  • Dish stick (Park WAG-5) or use the frame/fork as reference

Procedure

  1. Place the dish stick

across the rim with its central pointer against the axle end nut on the drive side. Note the gap.
  2. Flip the wheel and check the same on the non-drive side.

The pointer should reach the axle end nut by the same amount.
  3. If different

(e.g., drive side reaches further than non-drive), you need to pull the rim toward the side that reaches less: - Tighten all drive-side spokes equally (1/4 turn each), OR - Loosen all non-drive-side spokes equally (1/4 turn each).
  4. Recheck and adjust

    until both sides match. ---
